The west facing street façade of this residence was altered to provide better passive shading via extended roof overhangs and relatively small windows which also improved internal privacy. Bi-folding doors were incorporated into both the western and eastern walls of a central entertaining space to provide transition between an external western courtyard through the house to an eastern entertainment deck and swimming pool.
Prior to renovation this residence did not support the lifestyle of its owners. The design brief for refurbishment called for a more contemporary style of dwelling able to provide internal privacy and maximise entertaining space.
Although west facing windows are minimised this design exploits every opportunity to increase natural light and north facing glazing. Overshadowing toward neighbouring properties is minimised regardless of high clerestory windows via a flat skillion roof design.
